SELKIRK BANNOCK, BLACK BUN AND CLOOTIE DUMPLING FROM ALEX DALGETTY
Alex Dalgetty worked in Selkirk at the bakery which produced the original bannock but left to set up his own Scottish food business in Galashiels at the turn of the century. He became the first producer of Selkirk Bannocks in Galashiels. From that day to this, Alex. Dalgetty & Son have been making bannocks to the original recipe in their Galashiels bakery. His recipe, using highest quality ingredients, without adding preservatives, colouring or flavouring, is still used today in the bakery, which is run by his great grand daughter and her husband, namely Patricia and Bill Murray.

The recipe for this luxurious cake originated in Dundee, the home of marmalade and jam. The recipe evolved using mixed peel from the marmalade-making.It contains the best quality vine fruits and cherries and, as tradition dictates, the top is decorated with whole almonds.
